Benefits contributions

How do benefits contributions work through CareerGig?

PLEASE NOTE: This information is updated frequently and is subject to change

CareerGig is proud to be able to offer a wide selection of benefits to our freelance subscribers, and even more proud to be able to offer contributions to premiums that are taken out of our transaction fees.

The following outlines how contributions are made and calculated for eligible CareerGig Benefits.

Contribution levels:

The amount that CareerGig contributes for freelance subscriber premiums is based on the total transaction fees we charge.

Our transaction fees for Freelancers are the following:

  • 10% if the freelancer works up to 10 hours per month (Basic subscribers)
  • 7.5% if the freelancer works up to 80 hours per month (Premium subscribers)
  • 5% if the freelancer works 80+ hours per month (Professional subscribers)

Our contributions for eligible CareerGig benefits:

Out of this amount, CareerGig will contribute up to 3% of our fees towards eligible freelancer insurance premiums.

Our transaction fees for Companies are the following:

  • 10% if the company has 1-10 active Freelancers
  • 7.5% if the company has 11-25 active Freelancers
  • 5% if the company has 26 or more active freelancers

Our contributions for eligible CareerGig benefits:

Out of this amount, CareerGig will contribute up to 1% of the Company subscriber fees towards eligible freelancer insurance premiums.

Our total contributions for eligible CareerGig benefits:

Thus, the maximum of the total transaction fees eligible for contribution is 27% for Premium Freelancer Subscribers (33% of the fees for a Premium Freelance subscriber plus 20% of the fees for an Enterprise Company subscriber) and  35% (50% of the fees for a Professional Freelance subscriber plus 20% of the fees for an Enterprise Company subscriber)

If a freelance subscriber does not have eligible CareerGig benefits activated when the payment for a gig or task is initiated, they will not be eligible for these contributions, and if the amount of the contribution they are eligible for exceeds the monthly amount of their premiums, they will only be eligible for the amount that covers their premiums for that month.

Eligibility requirements:

There are several types of eligibility requirements, depending on the type of policy.

Some benefits products have minimum income requirements, such as long-term disability. The latest information is always available by contacting us, though we update our website content frequently.

Please note that each of our benefits products has unique eligibility requirements beyond these described below, and are based on the individual carrier, and in some cases can also be based on specifics from the applicant. Please contact us for more information.

All of our benefits contributions require a Premium or Professional subscription to CareerGig, and the first month of coverage must start 30 days or more after a subscription is started. Subscriptions are available through our Sign up pages.

Several of our benefits products have requirements that a minimum amount of hours is worked per week. These are based on Federal, State, and Carrier requirements, and are subject to change. Currently, a minimum of 80 hours a month worked through gigs and tasks on the CareerGig platform enables a freelancer to be eligible for these benefits.

We also offer several benefits that do not have minimum hours worked requirements, such as Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), savings accounts and many others. The best way to get a full list of these is to contact us for more information.
