What's the difference between and Gig and a Task?

Think of a GIG as the agreement between a Freelancer and a Company and TASKS are individual billable assignments a Freelancer completes as part of a GIG.

After you have accepted a freelancer’s application, it’s now time for them to start work on your Gig. The Freelancer will do this by creating a series of billable TASKS for your approval. A GIG is made up of one or more TASKS, each of which can be billed separately.

Think of a GIG as the agreement between a Freelancer and a Company and TASKS are individual billable assignments a Freelancer completes as part of a GIG.

These TASKS could be any of the following, depending on your needs:

  • A specific set of work within a larger project. For instance, a logo design that is part of a branding project, or a report that is part of a consulting agreement.
  • A set of hours over a period of time. For instance, 20 hours to be worked in the month of August

The following describes how tasks and payment work for Companies:

  1. Work within a GIG starts by creating a task
    1. Once you have accepted a Freelancer application you have officially hired them for a GIG
    2. The Freelancer will then create one or more TASKS that will make up the entire scope of the GIG for which you hired them.
  2. These TASKS will be sent to you for approval
    1. Task approval will consist of a description, hours, and cost.
    2. If you don’t approve any of these, you can send back to the Freelancer to be modified and re-submitted for your approval
    3. Once you accept a TASK, the Freelancer will begin working.
  3. A Freelancer then performs the work within the TASK
    1. When a Freelancer has completed a TASK, they will send it to you for approval.
    2. If you don’t approve of the work completed within the TASK, you can request that the Freelancer revise the work and resubmit the TASK for approval.
    3. Once you approve the TASK, you will click to approve
    4. At this point, you will be invoiced and payment for the total amount allocated to the TASK will be initiated.
    5. If you have not provided your payment information, you will be asked to do so.
  4. A GIG may contain several other open TASKS
    1. If there are other TASKS within the GIG you hired the Freelancer for, the GIG will remain open, and the Freelancer will continue their work.
    2. You can approve these open TASKS as they are completed.
    3. You can also add new TASKS to an open GIG if you would like.
  5. To Complete a GIG you must do the following:
    1. All TASKS must be completed in order to complete a GIG
    2. Once all TASKS are completed, a Freelancer can submit the GIG for completion
    3. If you approve, you can approve the GIG as completed
